Scrap gold buyers pay for tested gold content, not for whether a piece is wearable. Hillcroft Gold Buyers in Houston buys broken chains, single earrings, dental gold, and tangled jewelry at 2900 Hillcroft Ave. Gold-plated items usually have too little gold to price as karat gold.
Broken, old, and incomplete jewelry
A clasp-less chain, a bent ring, or one earring still contains gold. We sort the lot, test the karat, and weigh it in front of you. You do not need to repair anything first, and you do not need a matched set.
Old class rings, inherited chains, and jewelry you cannot identify are fine. If you do not know the karat, the test answers that. A stamp is only a starting point.
Dental gold, gold-filled, and gold plate
Dental crowns are bought as scrap after a metal test. Rinse them if you want. We still test them. They are not priced like a finished ring.
Gold-filled pieces contain more gold than a wash of plate, and far less than solid 10K or 14K. Gold plate is a thin coating over another metal. We will look, and if the test shows little recoverable gold we will say so. We will not price plate as solid gold.
When scrap price is not the whole story
A broken chain is almost always melt. An intact signed piece, a diamond still in the setting, or a luxury watch can be worth a separate look. Tell us if you know the maker. We will say whether we are pricing metal, a stone, or both.
